BURCHFIELD ANIMATION

Motion Design

Burchfield Penney Arts Center

The Burchfield Penney Art Center in Buffalo, NY is known for their nightly projection shows cast onto the outside of the building. The center is named after painter Charles Burchfield who was most known for drawing artistic enthusiasm from aspects and scenes within nature. In need of animations to be projected over the summer of 2016, the center called upon some local artists to create series of short motion graphics. To create an animation that appropriately fit within this theology, I drew inspiration from a specific architectural installation in the building mimicking nature. A certain room inside the building has lights on the ceiling arranged in the shape of the constellation Orion. Contemplating more on constellations, I came across a subject called Sacred Geometry. Sacred Geometry reflects the belief that geometric patterns reveal the nature of each form and its vibrational resonances and categorizes certain patterns with beliefs. Through my studies, I pulled inspiration from chapters of Sacred Geometry and paired them with my own ideas and sketches, bringing new geometric patterns to life through animation.
